Thank you for visiting my  campaign website.  It is an honor to serve as your State Auditor. 

Growing up in a working family without political connections, I never imagined I would enter politics.  The only thing I wanted to be was the middleweight champion of the world.

I first ran for public office, because I saw the profound impact that government has on the lives of people especially the young, the old and the sick.  As a member of the House of Representatives for 10 years, six as House Chairman of the Joint Committee on Human Services and Elderly Affairs, I had the opportunity to help those most in need of government services and programs.  And as State Auditor I have been  able to make sure that these programs and services work as intended.

I want to continue to do that. and as your auditor, I will continue to speak out and support the positive role of government.  I believe that fiscal responsibility and accountability can be achieved with compassion and decency.

At the same time, I maintain my audit efforts on areas of significant state expenditures such as Medicaid and the MBTA.  During my tenure, my office has uncovered billions of dollars in unnecessary and unallowable costs while also saving and recovering hundreds of millions for the Commonwealth.  

I will continue to work hard to protect the public interest and to ensure that state government is responsive and accountable to the people of Massachusetts.  And I will always remember that public service is a public trust.

My commitment to you is that I will continue to be a fair and effective watchdog of state government.
