Globe - Auditor urges more scrutiny
of DMH client funds The
Department of Mental Health should keep a closer eye on the funds of its
clients, State Auditor Joe DeNucci said today. DeNucci's
office issued an audit that looked at the millions of dollars held by
DMH for people under its care in residential facilities and other
programs. The
audit found that only one part-time employee in the DMH's central office
was responsible for reviewing 53 DMH vendors who were holding $16
million in client funds. "This
audit shows that the Department of Mental Health should improve its
oversight of funds belonging to vulnerable clients in order to better
protect them from loss, theft, or misuse," DeNucci said in a
statement.
